Origin of the Courses
Cambridge-ESOL Courses
Aims and Objectives/Expected Outcomes
To ensure that students acquire the language proficiency at Cambridge Level 3 with at least a C grade; and to prepare students for the examination requirements of FCE.
Target Students/Admission Requirements
Adult foreign students from ages 16 and above who wish to sit for the Cambridge FCE Examinations; students who wish to enter higher educational institutes like some universities in the UK and other countries. Students who wish to acquire the language for commerce or industry.
Course Content
Grammar or Language Use, Reading Comprehension, Listening Comprehension, Oral expressions and Written Expression.
REWARD Course books and materials at Intermediate Level (by Simon Greenall, Macmillan/Heinemann) as a text of study and skills acquisition. (see attached); “Animal Farm” by G Orwell and “A Tale of Two Cities” by Charles Dickens.
Cambridge First Certificate Handbook by Helen Naylor & Stuart Hagger (CUP)
as a text for learning & practising specimen FCE examination papers.
Total Duration/Weekly Instruction Times
Full time students: 1 year;
Daily lessons (Mondays to Fridays); 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. or 12.30 p.m. to 3.00 p.m.
Fees/Class Size
FCE: Full-time students (foreign students): 1 year 3 h daily (Mon – Friday) – 15 h /week.
Maximum : 20 pupils per class
Facilities and Equipment Available
Desks and chairs, teacher-made worksheets, video tapes and VC Discs and players, television set, audio cassette tapes and CD disc (especially publisher’s materials that go with the texts and workbooks) and players.
REWARD series of books and materials at Intermediate level.
Texts and guides re: “Tale of Two Cities” by Charles Dickens; “Animal Farm” by
George Orwell.
